Aside from thyroid problems and stress, what could be causing me to gain weight and develop horrid acne at age 29? I%26#039;ve seen my general practice doctor and a dermatologist but no one can figure it out. I think no one is seeing the big picture and that something underlying is causing this. Any ideas? We%26#039;ve ruled out thyroid, over-eating and stress. Thanks for your help!|||Two things I can think of to investigate first of all:
Cushing%26#039;s syndrome - caused by too much of a hormone called cortisol. Causes weight gain (especially centrally, i.e. on the belly but not on arms and legs), stretch marks, acne and high blood sugar.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) - where there is a hormonal imbalance with slightly too much testosterone. Causes weight gain, acne, hairiness (e.g. facial hair) and irregular periods. Obviously only applies to women!
These can be investigated with blood tests and/or by an endocrinologist. Good luck!|||A poor metabolism of fat and insulin resistance that is a vast subject. Please goggle for this.|||Insulin problems, like insulin resistance.
