Did anybody start getting acne as an adult?

I missed the whole adolescent acne time period. I started getting acne about 2 years ago. I am 26 and I seem to be getting it worse. Anybody know what really works to get rid of it? How about proactiv? I tried everything. From oily skin products to dry skin products. Nothing seems to be working. My pores seem larger than they used to be. Lots of blackheads. Any ideas?|||My skin hardly ever broke out when I was a teenager and in my early 20%26#039;s. When I had my son at 28 I started getting horrible breakouts and acne. It was so bad I went to the dr and they gave me bc pills. That made it even worst... so bad I had to stop taking the pills and take antibodics to get it to clear up some.

Since it is better but I still get them worst now at 32 than when younger. I think it%26#039;s to do with hormones. I haven%26#039;t tried proactive but I hear good things about it. I wash my face in really hot water followed by cold water... I was told this by a friend. She said the hot water opened pours and cleaned then the cold water helped them to close up while clean.|||I have come across many who didn%26#039;t get acne during their adolescent period but got it quite late at around 30. So there is no need for you to panic as it does depend upon your hormones. Right now all you need is to clear your skin up and take care of it, so that breakouts don%26#039;t happen.

I wouldn%26#039;t recommend proactiv, as I have had a very bad experience with it after it left my skin dry and itchy. I used zenmed%26#039;s derma cleanse acne system which is a completely herbal product that works wonders for clearing severe as well as mild acne.

The complete product comprises of a facial cleansing gel, an acne cleansing gel and easy to swallow capsules. The capsules work from inside to clear up the roots of acne and delay the re-occurrence. The facial gel to remove excess oils from the face and stop the buildup of harmful bacteria and dirt. And the acne gel helps in opening up clogged pores

and at the same time heals existing acne fast while minimizing the chances of scarring. So all your problems from acne, scars, open pores and blackheads are solved by this one kit.

It%26#039;s a marvelous product which I always recommend for people suffering from acne after I had experienced its curing power.

Best of luck!|||At 25 bad skin returned with pregnancy of my first son. I have good luck with products that contain glycolic acid. Look for Murad, MD Formulations or DDF. Large pores are supposedly heredity. Try pore minimizer products from clinique and use them only in large pore areas despite what sales lady might say.|||Go to a cosmetics counter at Macy%26#039;s or Nordstrom and tell them your skin problems and they will suggest what you should use for free. Also if you don%26#039;t want to do that go to Clinique.com or esteelauder.com or even nordstrom.com and talk to a live person through a chat session. You can tell them your problem and they will recommend products. Then look up those products on totalbeauty.com before buying them and see the reviews that people have left. This has really really helped me. I was going through a horrilbe time trying to find the right skin care and makeup for my wedding and this really gave me more information than you can imagine. I went with Clarins, they seem to working great! Hope this helped!|||i%26#039;ve heard some stories that pro activ dries up ur skin.

don%26#039;t put to many creams because your torturing ur skin..

try mixing some rock salt w/ water and wash it and gently rub the cotton in ur face then wash again w/ mild soap then dry it w/ towel not tissue it will irritate ur skin.. don%26#039;t wash ur face too many times thrice is enough.. i wash mine twice a day only...

never use salt solution everyday.. thrice is fine..

at first u%26#039;ll feel kinda painful but 4 me its normal..

hot water opens the pores and cold water helps to close it...

i hope it helps..:D|||I%26#039;ve had acne almost all my life until about 6 months ago when I found out that it%26#039;s mostly dieting and taking supplements that stops acne in the long-run. Here%26#039;s my rules for staying acne-free and what many of my acne-prone friends swear by...

RULE #1: Do NOT drink or eat any milk or milk based products. According to Patrick Massey MD, PhD. from the Daily Herald:

%26quot;Milk contains estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, androgen precursors like androstendione and other hormones. Some of these hormones are known to promote acne%26quot;

And also in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, suggests that drinking milk might increase the risk of acne in teenagers.

In this study, the Nurses Health Study II, more than 47,000 women completed an extensive health questionnaire about their health and lifestyles. One topic addressed was their milk-drinking habits as teenagers and whether or not they had been diagnosed with severe acne.

The results showed that those who drank milk were more likely to develop teenage acne. Those who drank more milk had even a higher risk.

RULE #2: Eat low-glycemic foods like whole wheat breads and brown rice. No more sodas, white bread, and white rice.

A study from the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology randomly assigned 43 men with acne to a diet higher in protein and low-glycemic-load foods (the treatment group) or to a typical Western diet that contains more foods with a high glycemic load (the control group).

The participants were 15-to-25-year-old young men who had mild to moderate acne and used a daily skin cleanser. The men in the treatment group were instructed to eat foods higher in protein such as fish, poultry, or lean meat and to focus on low-glycemic-index carbohydrates such as whole grain bread and fruits.

Results of the study showed that, after 12 weeks, acne lesions had decreased more in the treatment group compared with the control group. The treatment group also lost weight and showed an improved change in hormonal markers of acne.

RULE #3: Take a vitamin supplement that has specific anti-acne ingredients.

Acne sufferers tend to have lower levels of key vitamins and minerals like Vitamin A, Zinc, and Selenium.

Fish oils are very anti-inflammatory and shown to help acne caused by hormones. In fact, a study from Clinical Therapeuticas (2003) showed that fish oil decreased and acne causing cytokine (LTB4) to the same level as prescripton drug Zileuton!

I recommend a supplement that is exclusively made for acne sufferers in mind from:

...because it looks like they know what they%26#039;re talking about.

I don%26#039;t know about you, but when I follow those 3 rules, my acne is almost non-existent! I occasionally get one or two pimples here and there...but who could resist foods like pizza (a combination of cheese and refined carbs) all the time!
